Various Catholic networks will co-convene an important webinar on June 9<\/span> to support the upcoming celebrations of the \u2018World Day of Prayer for Creation\u2019 with the new Mass that Pope Leo added to the Missal. See:\u00a0www.bit.ly\/webinar-june-9<\/a><\/p>\n

This online event will feature church leaders and liturgical scholars who will unpack the significance of these two gifts that the last two popes made to the universal Church.<\/p>\n

On one hand, the \u2018World Day of Prayer for Creation\u2019 is celebrated annually on September 1st<\/span> or the following weekend, inspired by an ancient Orthodox tradition commemorating God’s act of creation of the world. As Pope Francis wrote in his 2015 letter instituting the observance, the day of prayer should be \u201cproperly celebrated with the participation of the entire People of God: priests, men and women religious, and the lay faithful.\u201d Moreover, an extended \u2018Season of Creation\u2019 (Sept 1 – Oct 4<\/span>) is inspired by and flows from that special day.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, Pope Leo enabled our liturgical celebrations of this observance by promulgating the \u2018Mass for the Care of Creation\u2019, which was recently added to the Missal \u2013 something unprecedented since 2002. For the first time, we have a Mass with a dedicated set of creation-related biblical readings (lectionary) and prayers (formulary) that make our September celebrations much more meaningful.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, the Eucharistic celebration of this special day is an opportunity to celebrate God as Creator and appreciate the sacred gift of creation with a new lens, while inspiring us to care for it more fervently at this time of ever-growing ecological crisis.<\/p>\n

Ante la urgencia de la crisis ecol\u00f3gica, que sigue agrav\u00e1ndose, este evento virtual contar\u00e1 con la participaci\u00f3n de l\u00edderes eclesiales y expertos en liturgia que analizar\u00e1n el significado de la confluencia de estos dos dones que los dos \u00faltimos papas han hecho a la Iglesia universal.<\/p>\n

Por un lado, el \u00abD\u00eda Mundial de Oraci\u00f3n por la Creaci\u00f3n\u00bb se celebra anualmente el 1 de septiembre<\/span> o el fin de semana siguiente, inspirado en una antigua tradici\u00f3n ortodoxa conmemorando la creaci\u00f3n del mundo por parte de Dios. Como escribi\u00f3 el papa Francisco en su carta de 2015 instituyendo esta celebraci\u00f3n, la jornada debe \u00abcelebrarse debidamente con la participaci\u00f3n de todo el Pueblo de Dios: sacerdotes, religiosos y religiosas, y fieles laicos\u00bb. Adem\u00e1s, este d\u00eda tan especial inspir\u00f3 un \u00abTiempo de la Creaci\u00f3n\u00bb prolongado (del 1 de septiembre al 4 de octubre<\/span>), extendiendo la celebraci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n

Por otro lado, el Papa Le\u00f3n hizo posible nuestras celebraciones lit\u00fargicas de esta conmemoraci\u00f3n al promulgar la \u00abMisa por el Cuidado de la Creaci\u00f3n\u00bb; al a\u00f1adir una misa al Misal, esto no tiene precedentes desde 2002. Por primera vez tenemos una Misa con lecturas b\u00edblicas (leccionario) y oraciones (formulario) enfocadas en la creaci\u00f3n, enriqueciendo nuestras celebraciones de septiembre para que sean mucho m\u00e1s significativas.<\/p>\n
