This conference was co-sponsored by the\u00a0Office of the President<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs<\/a>\u00a0at Georgetown University with\u00a0American Jewish Committee<\/a>.<\/i><\/p>\n

Nostra Aetate<\/i>\u00a0(NA<\/i>) is more relevant today than it was as a remarkable achievement 60 years ago when promulgated at Vatican II. Shortest of its 16 documents, with 436 of its 1,174 words dedicated to Jewish relations,\u00a0NA<\/i>\u00a0repudiated past Catholic teachings about Jews, Muslims, and the followers of other religions and provided principles for dialogue and cooperation. American Jewish Committee (AJC) was highly influential in the creation and reception of\u00a0NA<\/i>. Georgetown University, the nation’s first Catholic university and its first Catholic university with a full-time rabbi in its campus ministry, and AJC believe it is incumbent upon them to co-sponsor a celebration of\u00a0Nostra Aetate<\/i>‘s legacy. This commitment is strong even, or perhaps especially, during this challenging period of wars in the Holy Land and beyond that have yielded some divisions and disputes among Catholics, Jews, and others. In reference to Jewish-Christian theological dialogue, Pope Leo XIV has urged that \u201ceven in these difficult times, marked by conflicts and misunderstandings, it is necessary to continue the momentum of this precious dialogue of ours\u201d (May 19, 2025). This conference explored the new challenges for Christian-Jewish and interreligious relations in general, measuring the depth of\u00a0Nostra Aetate<\/i>\u2019s legacy.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Georgetown University’s\u00a0Center for Jewish Civilization<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Department of Theology and Religious Studies<\/a>\u00a0also sponsored this conference.<\/i><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In the keynote session, Archbishop Flavio Pace, the new Secretary of the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity, speaks along with Rabbi Noam Marans.<\/p>\n
